Silverchip Tackles Digital Skills Shortage

Silverchip Tackles Digital Skills Shortage

"one aspect that we still feel needs attention is the digital skills gap and this is something we want to do our bit to help bridge"
Jamie McMullan, co-founder and COO of Silverchip

Manchester-based Silverchip is celebrating its 10th anniversary by giving back to the digital and technology community by launching a one off training programme to address the digital skills shortage.

Silverchip is offering 10 applicants a fully-funded six-month training programme to learn to code and support to obtain their first role in the digital sector.

This one-time programme will prepare applicants for a role in software development, taking place two evenings a week. On-site teaching for successful applicants will start in May 2020 and last approximately 24 weeks.

Jamie McMullan, co-founder and COO of Silverchip said “For the last 10 years, myself and Liam have seen the digital sector grow and evolve, providing immense opportunities for ourselves and those involved. For all the positives and growth, one aspect that we still feel needs attention is the digital skills gap and this is something we want to do our bit to help bridge.”

“Collaboration is the cornerstone of the digital sector and this small step is our way of helping the wider digital community by training more quality talent for the Manchester tech scene and beyond.”

Liam Bateman, co-founder, and CTO of Silverchip added: “I’ve been lucky enough to spend almost 15 years in the digital sector and I’m extremely passionate about opening up software development to people from all walks of life. Integral to our pledge is accessible training, in terms of both time and financial commitment and what we’ve created is a programme that can be completed around existing jobs and general life.

“This is something I’m exceptionally proud to be a part of and I’m excited to share my knowledge and experience with a group of potential future CTO’s.”

Applications can be submitted on the Silverchip website here from the 2nd March 2020 until 31st March 2020 with shortlisting thereafter.

Following their training, graduates will be supported on their journey to securing their first role in the digital sector too, and any organisations who wish to know more about this or get involved can get in touch with Jamie McMullan on jamie@silverchip.com to discuss post-training recruitment.
