Sean and Mel Lloyd, who won £1.8m on Lotto in January 2015, sponsored the match ball at Stockport County’s football match against Blyth Spartans on Saturday 13 April. The pair, from Greater Manchester, created a new condiment business, Curious Sauce, with their winnings and have helped many local good causes since their jackpot joy.
Sean and Mel scooped the huge sum of money when Sean, from Tameside, found a penny outside his local shop and picked it up, thinking it would bring him good luck. He then rubbed his Lotto ticket with the penny which later won him the jackpot. Their pair immortalised their win by getting a wishing well and giant replica of the penny installed in their back garden.
Speaking at the time of their win, Sean said, "Things like this just don’t happen to people like me. I just cannot believe it. I have to keep pinching myself and telling myself this is really happening and Melanie and I really have won the lottery.”
The Hatters remain top of the Vanarama National League North despite losing 0-1 at the weekend with only three games left to play.
