Sail into your future with magnificent nautical traineeship

Sail into your future with magnificent nautical traineeship

"Working on the tall ships was a fantastic experience and helped me develop life skills which still help me to this day."
Daniel Loughran

Young people on Merseyside are being given the chance to work on the world-famous tall ships and gain valuable work and life experience.

The fantastic opportunity is being delivered by The Regenda Group, working in partnership with Alder Training and MAST, and is available to young people aged 16-18 who are not in currently in work, training or education.

As part of the course trainees will have also be working on their boat during the Mersey River Festival, giving them a bird’s eye view of the festivities.

Daniel Loughran was given the opportunity to sail on one of the tall ships as part of his traineeship in 2017 and is now an ambassador for the course.

Daniel said: “Working on the tall ships was a fantastic experience and helped me develop life skills which still help me to this day.

“Sailing around the coast of Britain isn’t something that everyone has the chance to do and I was very fortunate to able to take part. Every day you learnt something new and it really helps you understand the importance of working as a team.”

Daniel has since successfully completed a traineeship, and apprenticeship, and is now in full time employment with Regenda Homes as a Housing Assistant.

Daniel continues: “People leave education at different stages in life and not everyone is ready to go to University or enter straight into the world of work. Taking part in a traineeship and having the chance to work and sail on a Tall Ship helped prepare me for my apprenticeship and my job and it is something I will never forget.

“I would recommend that anyone wondering what to do next takes this amazing opportunity. You never know where it will lead to.”

During the course, trainees will work in the docks for two weeks to learn the key skills needed for their seafaring experience before setting sail to Greenock in Scotland.

Working as a full-time member of the crew, trainees will follow shift patterns and take part in day to day sailors tasks including keeping watch and maintenance work.

At the end of the Tall Ships experience, trainees who have completed the course will be guaranteed interviews for apprenticeships across The Regenda Group, including HR, Finance, Development, Communications and many more.

The Regenda Group is holding drop in centres every Friday at Commutation Plaza, Commutation Row, Liverpool.
