Manchester office named among best in country at UK's top workplace awards

Manchester’s Hanover building was last night named among the best workplaces in the country at the British Council for Offices (BCO) annual National Awards, taking home the highly-coveted ‘Best Recycled/ Refurbished Workplace’ award.

It comes off the back of a triumphant year for the scheme – based in NOMA – as it managed to strike a deal with tech behemoth Amazon to take every single floor of the building.

The BCO’s respected National Awards programme recognises top quality office design and functionality and sets the standard for excellence across the office sector in the UK. The dinner attracted over 1,200 key players from the office industry sector to celebrate the best-in-class talent as the winners from the 2019 Regional Awards programme attended Grosvenor House, hoping to take home the National Award for their category.

BCO judges praised Hanover’s bold refurbishment and reinvention, noting its new position as a “centrepiece” in the ever-evolving NOMA development. The scheme provides 90,000 sq ft office space, with 30,000 sq ft of retail to follow, in the historic building laid out around a central courtyard.

Ian Aldous, Chair of the BCO’s Northern Judging Committee, commented: “The transformation of Hanover is truly exceptional and is a testament to the strength of the Northern office market. The project has breathed new life into the Edwardian build; the team should be very proud.”

Richard Kauntze, Chief Executive of the BCO, said: “The standard of nominees at our National Awards astounds me each year. Each year, I believe we genuinely see the best of our sector redefine what best practice looks like. The Hanover building is testament to a dynamic city. Congratulations to the winners and all those nominated.”
