Cuckoo is delighted to announce a brand new initiative they have been involved with -Ideas4Ordsall, an academic project working with the Ordsall area in Salford, Greater Manchester. The project’s aim is to support local organisations and individuals to develop their own ideas for cultural activities.

Currently government initiatives only invite local people to contribute or ‘have their say’ after key decisions have already been made, Ideas4Ordsall was different. Academics worked in unison with local cultural intermediaries to support local people to develop their own ideas, placing local people at the heart of their own cultural plans, therefore enhancing the cultural fabric of the community.

In support of Ideas4Ordsall, Cuckoo approached and collaborated with video and film production company Brickhouse Productions to deliver 10 emotive films, telling the story of individuals involved, including; Amber Sanchez, an artist displaying in Salford Arts Theatre and the iconic Salford Lads Club, Chris Doyle a cultural intermediary who runs Chapel Street Community Arts and David Winston, a local historian and member of the congregation at Sacred Trinity Church.

In addition to the films, Cuckoo designed and built a responsive one page website, home to the 10 films, information about and how to get involved in the project as well as news and updates on project activity. All work was delivered free of charge.

The films and website were launched at a key event at the renowned Lowry Theatre in January this year and received a fantastic response with congratulations and further conversations with delegates from BBC, National Government, built environment and other universities.

Justine Wright, Managing Director at Cuckoo said; “We have been based in Ordsall, Salford for over 25 years, Salford as a community has always been passionate about art and culture, with some globally recognised historical figures and artists having strong roots here, some of which include; LS Lowry, Karl Marx, and iconic rock band The Smiths. Ideas4Ordsall really caught the essence of Salford. We really enjoyed working with the incredibly interesting people involved, their enthusiasm really shows in the films.”

Jessica Symons, Project Co-ordinator – said; “I first encountered Cuckoo Design in 2014 when I interviewed Justine as part of my research into the area. I was impressed with her warm and open attitude so when we needed some branding advice, I went back to her. Justine suggested we encourage local people to tell their own story of the project and spontaneously offered working with Brickhouse to make short films and build a website. We had a fantastic day filming people in the local area and everyone is very impressed with the results.”
