Raising Aspirations programme shortlisted for inaugural award

"By targeting children at primary school level, our impact is more sustainable. "
Lesley Burrows, Managing Director of Positive Foot

Burnley-based Positive Footprints has been named as one of the three finalists for the very first ‘Careers Programme in a Primary School’ at the National Career Development Institute (CDI) awards.

As part of The Job Junction programme, Positive Footprints gets pupils to discover their personal skills/qualities/passions, think about their futures and develop key skills associated with the world of work in a fun and engaging way. The programme is an out of box solution for schools, with all the necessary materials provided for teachers to deliver the programme in the classroom.

The CDI judges are looking for innovative programmes that are a model of best practice, contribute to the development of career development and have a strong impact on young people.

This is the first year that the CDI has awarded programmes that target primary schools.

Lesley Burrows, Managing Director of Positive Footprints, said: “We are really excited to be shortlisted for this award.

“Children as young as seven rule out certain careers based on people they know. The Job Junction programme opens up the world of work so children and young people know what careers are out there. It helps them develop the skills, qualities and character they’ll need to lead positive lives.

“By targeting children at primary school level, our impact is more sustainable. We believe that where you start off in life should not determine where you end up and our programmes have a greater chance of improving social mobility.”

Positive Footprints will compete against Adviza and NHS Health Education England for the award, which will be announced on Wednesday 6 March at a ceremony in The Queens Hotel, Leeds.
