Down By The Riverside Festival, a family-focused music and theatre festival based in Lancaster, reached out to two creative companies in Garstang to make 2018 a huge success. Their marketing partner, WestCoastCo. have been working with them since their first festival in 2017, and this year they have added hand-drawn bespoke illustrations to their plan, which Route Nine Studios have woven into a beautiful short film to promote the fairytale aspect of the festival.
Arran, the MD and Design Lead at WestCoastCo. explained, “our marketing plan for this festival has always had a strong emphasis on unique, eye-catching visuals, and we’ve been very lucky to work closely with Route Nine Studios on this project; it’s great to collaborate with people who really share our creative outlook and understand the importance of storytelling in marketing.”
This year’s festival theme is “giants”, and a focus on the story written by Teri from Route Nine Studios. The giants awaken every five years to tell one another about their dreams, and Down By The Riverside 2018 is the first time that humans will be able to meet them. This story is told beautifully in their new short film for the festival, “The Legend of the Giants”.
"It's been amazing to be able to work with a team who are so open to our creative vision and who really do believe in what we do and what we can create. Writing the fairytale for the festival was amazing as it gave me a chance to put my imagination to work while still fulfilling the brief of the advertisement. We are both so excited to see the festival in action and we're so proud to have been a part of it this year”, said Teri.
WestCoastCo. are a values-focused marketing company who understand that the average consumer is looking to purchase more than a product: they’re looking to invest in a company’s values, their culture and their story. For Down By The Riverside Festival, the story was one of the most important aspects, and something that Route Nine Studios were the perfect partners for. It was decided from day one that this was no ordinary festival, and therefore it deserved no ordinary advert.
Michael from Route Nine Studios explained, "being tasked with creating a video for the Down By The Riverside Festival has been a hugely exciting challenge. It's been great working on an advert that will break expectations of what an 'advert' should be. At Route Nine Studios we are all about storytelling - so being able to creative a narrative film that can be seen and enjoyed by so many people is really exciting!"
With Lancashire theatre companies and musicians, creative workshops, a world food court and local ales and cocktails, the festival is certain to be a magical experience for all ages.
