Sports Tours International launches new active holiday brand

Sports Tours International, headquartered in Salford, has launched a new leisure brand called Whereabouts Holidays.

Sports Tours International launches new active holiday brand

"Introducing adventure is a bold move for the company but we see the active leisure holiday market as a big growth opportunity."
Chris Bird, Sport Tours International

This further strengthens its position as a specialist in the active leisure holiday sector, and in part, is the result of the firm experiencing a 50 per cent increase in active holiday bookings over the past six months,

The  North West based company is bringing together the best of their Wheel2Wheel and Walk2Walk cycling and walking holidays and adding some adventure and Micro Adventure products. Unlike other brands in the market, all tours offered will be designed for anyone of reasonable fitness, with the emphasis on exciting, fun and active holidays for all.

As well as including some of the most popular active holiday destinations, the 2017 programme also includes more unusual destinations such as cycling in the Baltic States, mountain biking in Morocco as well as walking holidays to places as far flung as Norway and  Nepal.

The adventure programme will feature beginner level activities such as snow shoeing and canoeing as well as more challenging trips like trekking to Everest base camp.  There is also a Micro Adventure programme, offering short breaks of up to 5 nights for time-poor travellers who want a taste of adventure and an action packed weekend.

Chris Bird, Chief Executive of Sport Tours International, commenting on the new company, Whereabouts Holidays, said: “Introducing adventure is a bold move for the company but we see the active leisure holiday market as a big growth opportunity, and adventure and Micro Adventure as an unexploited sector.  We have an excellent product offering and this launch comes on the back of great financial results for Sports Tours International, and at a time when there’s increased confidence in this sector. We have experienced exceptional growth across all of our active leisure products, particularly cycling, and this looks set to become an increasingly important sector.

“We have introduced more unusual destinations and increased the range of trips to offer our customers a wider choice of experiences. Although the tours are very much in the leisure category they are more challenging than the tours we sell through our Freewheel Holidays brand which is more geared towards families and the senior traveller market.”
