Game, Set And Match As Mather & Co Returns To Wimbledon Museum For New Exhibits

""

Cheshire-based Mather & Co has been commissioned by Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum to design a new exhibit within the Museum to tell the story of the tournament’s trophies, delving into greater detail about their background and history – not just the players who’ve won them.

The new trophy exhibit will showcase the winners’ trophies in two minimalist glass showcases in the centre of the gallery so that their intricacies and beauty can be viewed by visitors up close and personal from 360 degrees.

The team at Mather & Co, who were responsible for designing the award winning Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum in 2006, has also been commissioned to create an Andy Murray ‘photo opportunity’ in the grounds of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, for visitors to have their photo taken with a life size backlit image of the 2013 Men’s Singles Champion.

“The new exhibition space within the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum will give visitors an insight into the background of the trophies – not only from the point of view of who won them, but also in terms of their design and history,” explains Ashley Jones, commercial manager, Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum.

“The winners’ trophies, the miniatures and the Doubles trophies will be presented to Museum visitors in a reverential space where they will have improved access to view the iconic trophies up close, and we know that is what our visitors want.”

The exhibit will also combine new audio visual elements including films about the intricate details of the trophies and interviews with previous Champions and footage of the finals. There will be interactive displays providing more detailed information about the trophies than ever before and visitors will be able to play with the interactive honours board, scrolling through the years and looking through Champions of the past.

“We're thrilled to be returning to Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum to create a new trophies exhibit and Andy Murray photo opportunity in what has been such an exciting year of the competition for Great Britain," explains Chris Mather, managing director of Mather & Co.

"The new additions will feature at the end of the Museum visit and will open in Easter 2014 in time for this year's Championships."
