300 young musicians from Liverpool are set to benefit from a new weekly after school Resonate Music Studio based at Bellerive FCJ Catholic College in South Liverpool which begins today.

Bellerive offers places for young people to develop their musical creativity, play in bands, sing in choirs and regularly work with musicians from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

Building on the success of existing music studios at Notre Dame Catholic College, Everton and Gateacre School the new site has added to the musical offer for Liverpool’s young people.

From today, as part of the Music Studios after-school programme, Resonate has launched a new weekly orchestral programme led by musicians from Liverpool Philharmonic - the Resonate Youth Philharmonic at both Notre Dame and Bellerive sites.

The North orchestra brings together Resonate Orchestra and Liverpool Philharmonic’s Everton Youth Philharmonic into one symphony orchestra serving young people in the north of the city.

The south orchestra is brand new and looking for young musicians to sign up.

For players with an interest in funk, hip-hop and electronic music there is also a new Big Beat Orchestra, alongside existing ensembles such as Resonate Brass Band, Resonate Rock, Resonate Youth Choir and beginners groups Let’s Play band and Resonate Singers.

Head of Music at Resonate, Jonathan Dickson, said of Resonate Youth Philharmonic: “This exciting new ensemble will provide Liverpool’s young musicians working at Grade 2-6 level with the opportunity to take part in an orchestral development programme delivered by the world famous Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra."

“Our aim has always been to ensure that Liverpool is the place where children and young people can access high quality after school choirs, bands and ensembles. We are proud to say that Resonate Music Studios is a place where young people can join together to make music and make friends.”

“With this new programme of activity we are extending our successful partnership with Liverpool Philharmonic to reach more young people, both enhancing our music provision to world-class standards and reaching out to a far wider audience”.

Peter Garden, Executive Director Performance & Learning at Liverpool Philharmonic said: "The two Resonate Youth Philharmonic Orchestras in North and South Liverpool will improve the pathways available to local young musicians as part of a growing after school music offer led by Resonate. We can’t wait to get started and over time support many more of Liverpool’s young people to fulfil their potential and progress into Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company."
