Lancashire beauty salon reaches new heights with renovated loft space

A BEAUTY salon has officially unveiled its newly restored extension with an exclusive summer soiree.

Lancashire beauty salon reaches new heights with renovated loft space

"Most of the team have been with us for a very long time and we are so pleased to have such a low turnover of staff, which can be quite unusual in the beauty industry."
Susan Probert

Boutique salon, Beauty 154, launched The Loft as part of its existing site at 154 Greaves Road, Lancaster.

Owners Christine Whitaker and Susan Probert had expansion plans in the pipeline for a number of years, due to the growing high demand of their beauty services at the popular salon.

Christine said: “The space was previously used as a flat for the 13 years that we have been based here. We were really pleased when we heard it was going to become available because we’d always thought it would be the ideal space for us to extend. We both knew we would have to expand the salon somehow soon because our bookings were getting so busy, especially for evenings and weekends.”

Susan added: “We’re really excited that we can now cater for parties and special occasions, such as hen weekends, proms and weddings. The space, which has three new treatment rooms, is available to book exclusively. There’s also a lovely big lounge area and a fabulous terrace which are both perfect areas to chill out and relax with a bottle of bubbles and delicious nibbles in between treatments.”

Beauty 154 offers a host of treatments, including Dermalogica facials, nail enhancement, massage and holistic therapy, waxing, make-up as well as aesthetic treatments that include microblading, micro-needling and plasma skin tightening.

The salon currently employs 14 members of staff and offers an ongoing apprenticeship scheme thanks to Christine and Susan’s long-term relationship with local colleges.

Susan added: “We’re really grateful and proud to have a good reputation locally as we regularly invest in high quality training. Our intimate waxing and facials are very popular and we’re proud to be a Dermalogica Expert salon thanks to our ongoing commitment to regular training. We have lots of exciting new treatments in the future and will be offering training to the public to pass on our years of experience.”

Beauty 154 opened its doors in August 2005 after Christine and Susan, who completed their beauty training together in Blackpool, left their respective roles at Virgin and Ribby Hall, after deciding it was time for a new challenge.

Christine said: “We looked at a range of options, including completely empty buildings and existing salons that were up for sale. Eventually, we found the building at 154 Greaves Road which was an existing salon that was up for sale. We both really liked the building and the location just south of Lancaster city centre with easy access and plenty of parking, so we decided to go for it.”

Susan added: “Going through everything together over the last 13 years has made a huge difference. We’ve been through life together – marriage, kids, everything. It’s great that we’ve had each other for support each step of the way.

“Most of the team have been with us for a very long time and we’re so pleased to have such a low turnover of staff which can be quite unusual in the beauty industry. We’d both like to say a big thank you to our entire team, we wouldn’t have been able to do it without them.”
