Restauranteur brothers open The Pickled Goose with £200k revamp

"Were a family business and it works well. We have a fantastic, strong team, including two head chefs and four managers, and have created 35 additional jobs in the area."

The Pickled Goose in Barton has been re-launched by restauranteur brothers, Mike and Chris Rawlinson.

The revamp included a £200k refurbishment of the site on Garstang Road, Barton, which had previously been The Barton Fox and The Sparling.

Following on from the success of their award-winning fine dining gastropub, The Royal Oak at Riley Green, their new venture is now officially open for business and has created an additional 35 jobs in the area.

Mike Rawlinson said: “We took over The Royal Oak in 2012. It has been trading well and is now at the stage where it’s a nice, stable business. At this point, we decided to start looking for a second site. The criteria was a decent location, big car park and passing traffic. We looked at a few different sites before this opportunity came up. It ticked all the boxes for us. Importantly, it was a good location – far enough away from The Royal Oak, but close-by too.”

Mike added: “It’s a nice blend of a pub restaurant. Chris’ background is in fine dining, he’s the head chef and although he primarily looks after the food element, we’re both involved in both sides of the business. We’re a family business and it works well. We have a fantastic, strong team, including two head chefs and four managers, and have created 35 additional jobs in the area. It’s nice to be able to offer people work in the current climate. It has also been great reviving that site and offering something new to the area.”

The brothers were assisted by Dominic Grimes of Stafford & Co accountants and PMD Business Finance throughout the re-launch of The Pickled Goose.

Brad Garside, associate director of PMD Business Finance, said: “We are delighted to have worked with Mike and Chris. We arranged finance for a full fit-out of the new restaurant – this included the bar, furniture and kitchen – it was every aspect of the building. This has been a really interesting project for us. They’ve done a fantastic job of it and we wish them every success with The Pickled Goose.”
