Employers urged to recognise New Year financial worries of staff

"Financial worries over issues like debt can prove a major distraction at work. We have initiatives available to enable employers to support staff."
Christine Moore, CEO of Manchester Credit Union

A Manchester chief executive is urging employers to recognise the post-Christmas financial stress suffered by staff as they return to work.

Manchester Credit Union’s chief executive, Christine Moore, is encouraging employers to recognise and support employees who may be feeling the stress and strain of debt following the festive season, in order to support their wellbeing in the long term.

Christine said: “The impact of financial worries over issues like debt can be especially devastating for employees, and it can prove a major distraction at work.

“There are plenty of initiatives available to enable employers to support staff through what can feel like a major weight on their shoulders – including free services such as our payroll deductions scheme, which enables staff to save and borrow through their pay.

We have nearly 30 employers who recognise the need to support their staff with money worries from - Manchester Airport to Manchester City Council – and can work with any employer within Manchester to set up the scheme.”

Manchester Credit Union is a financial co-operative, owned and controlled by its members, and has been in business for 25 years. It exists solely for the benefit of its members and any surplus generated is returned to members in the form of a dividend on savings, or used to improve services.

The credit union is open to anyone who lives or works in the City of Manchester, Bury, Rochdale, Tameside, Trafford and the High Peak.
