Getting 2017 off to a great start, The Furniture Recycling Group (TFR Group) has been shortlisted for a Boldness in Business award – an awards event initiated and hosted by the Financial Times and ArcelorMittal and made to celebrate innovative companies and entrepreneurs.

Shortlisted for the Corporate Responsibility / Environment award, TFR Group recycles mattresses and soft furnishings, diverting them away from landfill and feeding the materials back into the manufacturing of new products.

Being shortlisted for a Boldness in Business award is a welcome recognition of the continued effort TFR Group put into minimising strain on our planet’s resources and contributing to the circular economy.

Nick Oettinger, Managing Director at TFR Group, says: “We're very happy to be starting off the year on such a high. Being shortlisted for such a great award is a huge boost for the company and reinforces the importance of everything we’ve been striving to achieve since launch.

“Of course, without our many loyal customers and partners and their incredible support throughout 2016 this wouldn't have been possible, so I want to extend a very sincere thank you to them for their help.

“We intend to continue working to improve the processes and regulations when it comes to the recycling of difficult waste streams like mattresses, and we hope that this event may help us spread the word far and wide on just how important our mission is to the condition of our planet.”

TFR Group recently made headlines with its world-first automated pocket spring mattress recycling machine, created to streamline the mattress recycling process and reduce the number of mattresses sent to landfill each year.

Within just 2.5 minutes the components of these mattresses are automatically separated into steel and polypropylene waste streams, leaving recyclable components that have a value and can be sold on, re-used as scrap or recycled.

Since launch, TFR Group has diverted over 1 million mattresses and 3,500 tons of components from landfill; just one of the many achievements contributing towards the company’s nomination for a Boldness in Business award.
