An accountancy firm has climbed the industry’s definitive league table after recording a virtually unmatched increase in earnings.
ClearSky Accounting achieved year-on-year revenue growth of 43%, posting fee income of £6.71m for 2013/14.
The leap in turnover saw ClearSky, which has offices in Warrington in Cheshire and Middleton in Greater Manchester, climb 14 places in Accountancy Age magazine’s latest Top50+50 survey – from 87 to 73.
Only two practices featured in the annual list of the UK’s 100 biggest accountancy firms posted a higher rate of fee-income growth.
ClearSky managing director Derek Kelly said: “These results are testament to the hard work put in by the entire team over the past year.
“We are always striving to improve our offering to contractors, freelancers, self-employed professionals and small businesses, and it’s encouraging that our efforts seem to be paying off.
“To achieve the third strongest growth rate of any firm in the league table is particularly pleasing.
“There is plenty of competition out there, however, and we will continue to innovate in order to stay ahead of the pack.”
Kelly attributed the revenue increase to ClearSky’s growth amongst small and medium-sized businesses.
“Traditionally we have been best known for supporting individual contractors and freelancers who run their own limited company”, said Kelly.
“However, during the past year we have seen considerable growth in the SME space following the launch of our dedicated ClearSky Business brand and the acquisition of several niche accountancy practices.
“Additionally, our base of active contractor and freelancer clients has risen by 15% year-on-year to more than 4,000.”
Several improvements have been made to the company’s online client portal, while staff numbers have increased significantly.
Contractor and SME clients receive assistance with everything from company formation to book-keeping and VAT, tax and year-end returns. They also benefit from transparent pricing, access to a dedicated personal accountant and pro-active advice on legislation.
