Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK is inviting young people seeking a career in civil engineering to find out more about the roles, and how they will play a key part in building the A49 link road.
Attendees at the event, held in partnership with Wigan Council, will hear from former apprentices who have worked their way up the career ladder at the civil engineering firm. Jones Bros personnel will also discuss how to apply for a place on its award-winning apprenticeship programme.
And attending the evening could give delegates the chance to start a lifelong career in civil engineering and construction, says major projects manager, Mike Jones.
He said: “We’re excited to meet local people keen to begin a career in the industry by working on a significant civil engineering contract that will benefit their community.
“We have a proud track record of providing quality apprenticeships, with all tuition and qualifications fully supported by the company, and many of our apprentices choosing to continue their development with us thanks to our support and training programmes.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to gain skills on a project that will leave a lasting legacy in the area for both local workers and their friends and family.
“Our new apprenticeship intake will be working alongside expert trainers who have years of experience in mentoring those new to the industry.”
Leader of Wigan Council, Councillor David Molyneux, said: “This event is an important step to ensure the link road creates jobs for local people.
“The project is going to bring many benefits to the area, from the skills learned by apprentices working on the site, to better connectivity through the borough upon completion.
“Jones Bros’ continued investment in apprenticeships makes them the perfect fit for this project, and I look forward to seeing recruitment take place in due course.”
The event takes place at Wigan & Leigh College’s Parson’s Walk campus on Wednesday 13th February, with the first session running from 4pm to 5pm and the second from 6pm to 7pm.
It’s the latest Jones Bros presentation on the project, following the company’s attendance at a Wigan, Bolton & Bury Construction Club event, the Wigan Business Expo, and a ‘Meet the Buyer’ session.
Jones Bros has pledged to provide local employment opportunities as part of the contract, in addition to forming partnerships with sub-contractors and suppliers from the Wigan area.
Established in the 1950s, Jones Bros is now being run by the second and third generations of the founding family and employs more than 350 people.
The family-owned firm has recruited more than 100 apprentices during the past three years, with many of its senior management having started out in apprenticeship and trainee roles.
In addition to highways, it works on projects including the construction of waste management facilities, renewable energy, and flood and marine defence projects around the UK.
