Top names announced in judging panel for North West Charity Awards


For the first time, North West charities and not-for-profit organisations now have an opportunity to be celebrated and recognised for their outstanding contributions to their communities and causes.

A total of 13 awards will be presented to charities, individuals and companies who have gone above and beyond to raise funds, and awareness for local charities.

The winners will be announced at the Midland Hotel in Manchester on October 11th and will include a welcome drinks reception, formal three-course dinner and the awards presentation. A £500 donation will also be made to one charity category winner.

Nominations are now closed and the judges have the exciting and important task of selecting the short list finalists. Tickets are now available for the awards evening – Attend.

The judges are:

  • SUE HUTCHINSON

Sue has a wealth of experience, having focused on the specialist areas of charities, social housing and education for over 15 years. Sue is a Partner at Beever and Struthers, working with clients at local, regional and national levels. Sue enjoys providing training and sector updates for clients on various topics.

 

  • BARONESS HELEN NEWLOVE

Baroness Newlove was a community campaigner and created Newlove Warrington after the murder of her late husband Garry Newlove who was kicked to death by a gang of youths outside the family home in 2007. The Baroness Newlove of Warrington, came to prominence in 2010. David Cameron appointed her as community champion for active and safer communities.  Lady Newlove was appointed Victims’ Commissioner, in 2012.

 

  • AMELIA LEE

Based in Manchester, Amelia supports third sector organisations across the North West to find talented people with specialisms in fundraising and development.  Working with a wide range of charities and not-for-profits across the region, she has also been a trusted partner of charities, arts and heritage organisations, higher education and environmental causes among other things.

 

  • CLARE HARRISON

Clare has over 21 years’ experience of volunteering and working in the local Voluntary and Community Sector in Cheshire West. Her current role as Deputy Chief Officer at Chester Voluntary Action brings her into daily contact with their members, ranging from community groups and local charities, through to larger regionals. Clare is passionate about the Voluntary and Community Sector, and knows that in an increasingly challenging environment, the role charities play today is more important than ever.

 

  • CRAIG BACKHOUSE

Chief Executive Officer of Furness Carers based in the South West of Cumbria and has over 22 years’ experience of working in the Voluntary and Community Sector. Craig has been in his current role since 2004 and has the experience of representing at local, regional and national levels in supporting carers.

 

  • JULIA WORTHINGTON

Julia Worthington, Founder of Amber Coaching and Consulting, has been a fundraiser for over 20 years. Some roles operated in the past include, fundraising volunteer for National Childbirth Trust, sole fundraiser for The Railway Children and for the last five years, Head of Fundraising for The Prince’s Trust. Since setting up Amber Consulting in 2011, Julia has become an accredited consultant for the Lloyds Bank Foundation, a regular speaker at third sector conferences and has worked with hundreds of charities, helping them to increase their income and improve their ability to fundraise.

 

  • NAOMI TIMPERLEY

Naomi is a translator, mediator, enabler and fixer. She is a bridge-builder. In business, bridge-builders are essential. Co-Founder of Tech North Advocates and a consultant working with tech and digital business, Naomi was named in the Maserati 100 in 2015 – a definitive list of business leaders who actively support the next generation of entrepreneurs. She is also a TEDx speaker and mentor.

 

  • SIMONE ROCHE

Simone Roche is the founder of NorthernPowerWomen, managing director of Events 1st, Co-founder of TEDxWhitehallWomen and Director of Women 1st. Simone is the driving force behind Northern Power Women supporting the drive to close the economic gap between the North and South, and creating a northern powerhouse for jobs, investment, and bright futures. She is also passionate about connecting people and bringing about positive change. She is the driving force behind the not-for-profit initiative Women 1st, which supports women who aspire to senior leadership roles.

 

  • RUTH SHEARN

After starting her career in the not-for-profit sector, Ruth launched RMS from her bedroom 25 years ago.  She has grown it to become one of the most highly regarded marketing agencies in the region working predominantly with privately-owned businesses, professional practices and household brands.

 

  • TIM CORNES

Tim Cornes has 30 years of experience working at senior director levels in different businesses.  He currently works as a Business Connector in Cheshire East, matching the skills and expertise of local businesses and professionals, to the needs of the voluntary and community sector. Tim has a passion to create successful and sustainable local voluntary organisations, working in partnership with local businesses.

 

  • BECKY ROBERTS

Becky Roberts is a PR & social media consultant with 12 years of experience including not-for-profit. Through leading PR and social media campaigns, Becky has extensive knowledge and experience delivering successful strategic and tactical activities that positively demonstrate strong return on investments and heightened brand awareness within targeted publications/audiences.
