Online clothing retailer Boden extends its software catalogue with Godel

British clothing retailer Boden has invested in its third dedicated software development team from Manchester-based Godel as part of its continued online strategy.

Online clothing retailer Boden extends its software catalogue with Godel

"Its becoming harder and harder to recruit developers, and contractors were not a long term economically viable option, so we looked to outsourcing as the best way to meet the businesss demands."

The partnership now includes a dedicated UK based Business Analyst on site allowing it to build business requirements faster.

Godel has worked in partnership with Boden over the last two years to help the business scale faster and more cost effectively than it could achieve by hiring or working with software development contractors.

“We realised we needed more help as the business had a growing list of requirements that the in-house team simply couldn’t fulfil in the time scales we needed,” explains David Petronizio, head of development at Boden.

“I’ve had some bad experiences in the past and wanted to make sure that the quality of an outsourced team would meet our requirements – I’m pleased to say Godel is great at software delivery – it writes great code and strives to be the best at what it does rather than the biggest.”

The partnership began in 2014 with four developers working on a programme for suppliers and their ethical trade records. The in-house team had a proof of concept and handed it over to Godel to build. From there a second team was engaged to build an app for certain aspects of the data on the website and mobile applications. The app uses the same architecture as the supplier system so Godel could deliver new features for the retailer rapidly.

“Keeping pace with the fast world of online retailing is a challenge and finding the best software talent to help grow the business can be difficult when there is a huge shortage of skills in the UK,” explains Neil Turvin, CEO of Godel.

“It’s great to be involved in the development and digital evolution of an online retailer like Boden and we’re thrilled that the relationship has stepped up another gear.”
