Ex-Premier League stars support Cheshire coaching project

"Scorecher is precisely the kind of thing I would have wanted when I was a kid"

Ellesmere Port entrepreneur Russ Kavanagh is making those dreams and more a reality for football fans after assembling a team of former Premier League stars to crowdfund Scorecher – the world’s first cloud-based football coaching and lifestyle programme.

Being developed by Russ and a team including football legends Lee Sharpe, David May, Neville Southall, Peter Reid, former Liverpool player Emile Heskey, current Liverpool ladies player Natasha Harding and ex-Leicester defender Matt Elliott, Scorecher will offer academy-class training and lifestyle resources to players and coaches across the UK and all over the world.

“I went to see Neville Southall speaking at Whitby Sports and Social Club and I had a lightbulb moment,” said Russ.

“As a youngster I was a frustrated amateur player, as many people were. I began to think about how people who love to play and coach football could be given easy, mobile access to a high quality coaching resource, developed by the players they admire, which they could tailor to their needs, it could have a huge impact on participation, achievement and enjoyment of the beautiful game.”

Russ, whose background was in teaching before he founded online tuition and careers advice platform Learnerverse, discussed his idea with Southall that night and Scorecher was born.

Since then Russ has brought Chester University on board and enlisted more Premier League and Women’s Super League legends to back the programme.

Those stars are now offering a host of signed goodies and money-can’t-buy personal experiences to crowdfund the development of Scorecher. You can take a look at the experiences on offer, which include joining former players for matchday experiences at Old Trafford, Goodison Park, Anfield and the King Power Stadium to personal appearances for you and your mates and coaching sessions for your team.

And there are a few rewards you can grab that you’ll never get the chance to enjoy again.

“It is incredible, Neville Southall is offering to sit in the Kop with a Liverpool fan for a game, you and your mates could play golf with Lee Sharpe and David May or your girls team could receive a day’s coaching from Liverpool Ladies and Wales star Natasha Harding,” said Russ.

“I believe Scorecher will revolutionise football coaching and the professionals believe it too which is why they are offering these rewards.”

All the rewards can be found on crowdfunding website INDIEGOGO here: igg.me/at/teamscorecher.

“Scorecher is precisely the kind of thing I would have wanted when I was a kid,” said Lee Sharpe. “When I was growing up I would sleep in my football boots, with my football. If there was something out there that would have allowed me to live like a pro I would have jumped on it.
