Founder of personalised clothing supplier moves to chairman's role

Clothes2order.com restructures top team

"Now is the time for me to focus on our strategic development and the new opportunities for the business"
Michael Conway

Personalised clothing supplier Clothes2order.com has restructured its top-level team, with commercial director Sam Jones promoted to managing director to succeed founder Michael Conway, who becomes executive chairman.

Another change sees retail expert David Cox join Clothes2order.com as a non-executive director. He has been acting as an adviser to the firm for the past year.

Michael will focus in his new role on Clothes2order.com’s strategic development and new opportunities while Sam, who joined last year from online sports retailer Kitbag, will take over the day-to-day running of the company.

Clothes2order.com, whose roots trace back to a start-up launched in 1995 by Michael from his Salford flat, operates from a 24,000sq ft production and distribution facility at Trafford Park.

It has grown to become an international supplier of personalised clothing to businesses, teams and communities. The firm prints and embroiders logos and designs on to t-shirts, polo shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts and other items.

Clients range from small firms and charities to household names such as Google, Coca-Cola, Mercedes-Benz, Microsoft and Kellogg’s.

The company has expanded rapidly in recent years, with revenues increasing from £4.4m in 2013 to over £10m in 2016. Staff numbers have risen from 28 to 120 in that time.

Michael said he would now focus on acquisitions, international growth and new revenue streams.

He added: “Now is the time for me to focus on our strategic development and new opportunities for the business.

“We have a very capable management team in place who I am confident will continue to grow the company in line with our mission, vision and core values.

“Sam has considerable e-commerce growth experience and has made an immensely positive impact since joining the company as commercial director. His qualities and experience mean he is the right person to now drive the business forward as managing director.

“David brings a wealth of experience of working with dynamic growth businesses and is a great addition to our board. His advice, wisdom and guidance as we continue our growth journey will be invaluable.”

Sam said: “I’m immensely honoured and privileged to lead our business on the next stage of its growth journey. The company is in a great position following significant investment in the latest printing technology which enables us to meet our customers’ needs more quickly and to a higher quality than ever before.”

David is a former managing director at Screwfix Direct and has previously served on the boards of Go Outdoors, Wiggle and Diet Chef. He is currently chairman of Toolstation, BVG Group and Lovell Rugby.

He said: “I’m delighted to be joining the board of Clothes2order.com at a very exciting time for the business.

“Clothes2order.com is committed to serving its customers quickly and reliably by doing things a little differently to the rest of the industry.

“By focusing relentlessly on meeting customers’ needs and offering an exceptional
e-commerce experience, it has positioned itself very strongly in its sector.”
