Liverpool Signing Choir plan special performance at St Johns

"The Liverpool Signing Choir has already brought the diversity and inclusivity of Liverpool to a worldwide stage, so for them to hold this free performance in St Johns is a real treat."
Robert Bradley, Manager of St Johns

A choir which performs entirely in sign language is preparing for a very special performance in St Johns Shopping Centre on Saturday 19th November.

The Liverpool Signing Choir, which is comprised of members aged between four and eighty years old, will be at St Johns Shopping Centre from 1.30pm until 3pm to showcase a number of favourite festive songs, just in time for shoppers getting a head start on their Christmas shopping.

The choir has enjoyed national popularity in recent years, after being invited to take part in the Closing Ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics, and since then they have mesmerised audiences in the UK and across the world with their unique sign performance style.

Saturday’s performance is being held to raise money for the choir; shoppers are encouraged to donate to help the group continue to grow and spread its message of building confidence and self-esteem through performance.

Robert Bradley, centre manager of St Johns, is keen for visitors to come see the show for themselves: “It’s important for us to come together as a city and rally behind our home grown talent. The Liverpool Signing Choir has already brought the diversity and inclusivity of Liverpool to a worldwide stage, so for them to hold this free performance in St Johns is a real treat.

“The organisers of the choir have made it their mission to make sure every child feels welcome, and I’d love it if the rest of the city could come and show their support for this worthwhile mission on Saturday. I’ve seen them perform many times, and trust me, you won’t regret it!”

Catherine Hegarty, founder of The Liverpool Signing Choir, says: “The Liverpool Signing Choir is a visual, unique, city wide, inclusive choir, with members hailing from all walks of life. Our priority is to use the visual beauty of sign language when performing songs.

We are as loud as any vocal choir the difference being "Our Voices Our In Our Hands", and I know the entire choir cannot wait to put on a show for shoppers in St Johns this Saturday.”

The Liverpool Signing Choir will be performing at St Johns Shopping Centre from 1.30pm until 3pm on Saturday 19th November.
