Employees from Liverpool City Council’s green service provider were honoured in the fifth annual Glendale Liverpool Recognition awards ceremony.

The event, held at Liverpool Town Hall on 12 November, celebrated the achievements of all employees, new recruits and apprentices within the organisation, over the last twelve months.

Employees were joined by Liverpool presenter Jimmy Day, who hosted the evening, while the cabinet member for employability and skills, Councillor Nick Small, opened the awards ceremony.

Looking after the city’s parks, cemeteries and recreational green open spaces, the Glendale Liverpool team cover 170 sites and around 10 million square metres of green space.

Over the last 9 years, Glendale Liverpool has built an award-winning apprenticeship programme and a pre-apprenticeship scheme for 16-17 year olds who are not in education, employment or training (NEET).

The evening recognised those at each stage of the apprenticeship programme, as well as the company’s long standing employees.

The ceremony began by congratulating the six new recruits who are about to begin their 12-month pre-apprenticeship scheme, as they were welcomed to the stage by Councillor Nick Small.

They were followed by the seven apprentices moving on from the pre-apprenticeship scheme, as well as three advanced apprentices and four individuals who have graduated from the scheme and are now progressing into permanent positions in the company.

The awards night also recognised the 80 skilled employees who make an outstanding contribution to Glendale Liverpool and the service provided to the city.

Councillor Nick Small, Cabinet Member for Education, Employment and Skills, says: “Glendale Liverpool has an apprenticeship scheme which it can be incredibly proud of, and I am delighted that Glendale’s partnership with the city council continues to thrive. Not only do they share our commitment of maintaining the green spaces in our city, but they share our commitment in motivating and training young people.

"It is wonderful to see here tonight so many young people who have taken this opportunity and are now well on their way to a fulfilling, lifelong career.

"Each and every individual here in the room tonight plays a key part in the upkeep of our city, and they should take great pride in what they have achieved.”

Peter Cosgrove, general manager of Glendale Liverpool, says: “I’m extremely proud of the Glendale Liverpool workforce, from our pre-apprentices to our permanent employees, each and every individual in our team is central to our success.

“Our annual awards ceremony is an important opportunity to bring the workforce together and to share our highlights from the year, celebrating our success as a team and recognising the individuals who have gone that extra mile.

“It is our team’s dedication, hard work, and commitment that drives the company forward. And tonight we got the opportunity to say thank you.”
