New iSTEM Operations Manager Takes Charge At Preston's College

New iSTEM Operations Manager Takes Charge At Preston's College

""

Preston’s College has appointed a new operations manager to coordinate its iSTEM teaching provision in preparation for the opening of its new £13m iSTEM Centre in September.

Former Preston’s College student, Rebecca Kay, from Ashton-on-Ribble, has a wealth of iSTEM (Innovation and STEM) experience, built up over a five-year career with the further education provider as an advanced skills technician for science and work-based assessor.

As iSTEM operations manager, the 26-year-old will be responsible for ensuring high-quality teaching is delivered consistently across the curriculum in both traditional and non-traditional iSTEM subjects - ensuring Preston’s College delivers skilled, work-ready learners.

Rebecca’s remit will also be to improve the pipeline of future iSTEM talent by engaging with local primary and secondary schools across Lancashire to improve classroom teaching, knowledge and enthusiasm for iSTEM subjects.

Rebecca said: “I can’t wait to really get my teeth into the new role. A shortfall of suitably-skilled employees is already proving costly for businesses across Lancashire and our goal is to ensure more young people embrace iSTEM by focusing resources on the right areas.

“The College’s innovative project-based learning approach versus traditional teaching techniques has been very well received by staff, students and employers alike and we’re working hard to ensure local schools deliver an enriched and enhanced iSTEM curriculum.

“My role is all about helping to bridge the skills gap and I hope everyone that passes through the doors of the College’s new iSTEM centre embraces our ethics and vision for iSTEM provision.”

Chris Wood, principal for excellence and learning at Preston’s College, added: “Rebecca has an outstanding track record in STEM and promoting her to the position of iSTEM operations manager was a natural fit for her skills base.

“Her core understanding of our values and exceptional work ethic will prove crucial in helping us to achieve our long-term vision in becoming the North West’s leading provider of advanced iSTEM education.”
