Diagnose your business blind spots with event at OGS Works

Imagine a conveyor belt that you could run your business along to fix glitches, or a diagnostics machine you could plug your business into that shows where attention is needed.

Diagnose your business blind spots with event at OGS Works

"A blind spot in a business is definitely not a failure, its an opportunity to make improvements and I think we might find we all have a lot more in common than we first thought. "
Tanya Grady

OGS Works is inviting Manchester business leaders and entrepreneurs to come together with start-ups and small businesses to identify their own business blind spots – and ultimately unearth new skills and strategies via conversations with new contacts.

In the relaxed Old Granada Studios Works basement atmosphere, guests can meet and mingle with both experts and fellow business owners on a ‘conveyor belt’ of conversations for a quick fire round of brainstorming, sharing of ideas and discussions to highlight often overlooked areas in their business that they might have in common.

Tanya Grady, community manager at OGS Works, said: “The stresses and pressures of running a small business mean that some areas might get overlooked or see owner managers trying to do everything themselves to keep costs down.

“We wanted to find a way of supporting people with both spotting these potential business blind spots and finding solutions to fix them, so this ‘conveyor belt’ format is a new, informal way of getting people together to share ideas and learn from each other, as well as making new contacts.”

Hosted by Dan Nolan from award-winning digital agency, theEword, this free event will allow organic, one-to-one conversations and will feature an expert panel across the key areas of a running and developing a business including digital marketing, HR, idea creation, finance and  legal.

We asked some of the speakers to share the best piece of advice they have received during their careers. Here’s what they said:

Ben Gateley from Charlie HR

"If your choice is to hire on attitude, skill set and experience, hire on attitude first, skill set second and experience third because the attitude of those around you will make all the difference."

Peter Holden, Holdens’ Agency

“When creating an advertising campaign the headline shouldn’t simply be a caption for the visual treatment, it should intrigue and make the reader / viewer want to find out more. This was from the man who was behind the ‘Mum’s gone to Iceland’ campaign Tom Reddy.”

Andrew Buchan, The Neighbourhood

"40% of something is worth more than 100% of nothing.  At the time our agency was needing a lift off the ground and rather than try and hold on to everything, a mentor told me to focus on the longer game rather than the vanity attached to holding on to everything.”

Tanya Grady concluded: “This new style of event takes some of the pressure off - at least for the evening, but hopefully beyond.”

Blind Spots: the outsider audit takes place on from 18.00 to 20.00 on Thursday 16th February at Old Granada Studios, Atherton Road, Manchester, M3 3GS. Tickets are free and include slider bagels and refreshments from Eat New York.
