Bury law firm Clough & Willis is celebrating after receiving the news that Shefali Talukdar – managing partner – has been nominated in the Businesswoman of the Year category at the prestigious Made in Bury Business Awards.
The Made in Bury Business Awards - which are taking place on 23rd November at the Longfield Suite, Prestwich, - champion local Bury businesses and celebrate their outstanding achievements. This is the fifth year the awards have been staged. There are 18 categories in total plus Bury Businessman and Bury Businesswoman of the Year – both of which are new gongs. Entries are judged by a high-profile panel including some of the borough’s leading business professionals.
Judging criteria for Shefali’s category include; initiative, having a proven track record of achievements in their field, entrepreneurial & business accomplishments, excellent leadership skills and strong financial performance and growth.
Shefali has been a solicitor since 1988 and joined Clough & Willis in 1991. She has been the managing partner since 2003. She has spearheaded the growth of the firm increasing turnover and head count. This has included acquiring and integrating two firms into the business and the overseeing of a new office in Little Lever in 2015. Shefali is also responsible for leading and implementing the firm's strategy and overall management of the business.
Outside of her day to day work, Shefali is a key player in the legal community for Bury and the North West. She is a committee member and former president of both the Bury & District Law Society and Association of North West Law Societies (first female president of ANWLS). She is a member of the Law Society Managing Partner and Property Sections with strong links across the legal community.
Shefali is also committed to the wider Bury community, through her work with charities, local schools and businesses. She was the first female chair of Bury Grammar School Governors holding the position for five years; she was on the board for a total of 16 years. Shefali helped to set up the Bury Hospice Special Events Committee which has raised over £100,000 in the last four years. She is also on the board of The Bury Met; her remit is to help raise corporate engagement with the venue and to be an advocate for its work within the local community.
