An Altrincham solicitors firm has donated 1,000 reflective band bracelets to schools in Trafford, to help children be seen in winter – as part of Road Safety Week (21-27 November).
Michael Jefferies Injury Lawyers handed out the bands to pupils in 14 primary schools, across Manchester, Altrincham, Timperley, Sale, Brooklands, Wythenshawe, Didsbury and Bowdon.To promote the message of road safety, pupils were also given winter safety advice posters with ‘be bright’ tips to hang up in their classrooms.
Through the donation, Michael Jefferies Injury Lawyers is hoping to raise awareness and encourage children to be seen during the winter months.
Road safety is a key issue for children in the UK, with the number of child KSI (killed or seriously injured) casualties in the UK between June 2015 and June 2016 remaining at 1,950 – with no change from the previous year.
Emma Foley, teacher at The Willows Primary School in Manchester, comments: “Road safety is always such an important message for children, but particularly at this time of year, with the dark mornings and evenings. Many of our pupils walk, cycle and use scooters to get home, so the bands can be attached to bags or coats to make them more visible to cars and to reinforce the safety message.”
