Redx Pharma Plc backs the Business of Science Conference

""

North West drug research company, Redx Pharma, has affirmed its support for Manchester's inaugural Business of Science Conference which takes place next week by becoming a sponsor.

Staged as part of a programme of events to celebrate Manchester’s status as European City of Science, the conference will highlight how the development and commercialisation of science is driving growth across the whole of the North.

AIM-listed Redx Pharma, which has close to 200 employees in the region, has established a portfolio of 14 proprietary patent protected drugs programs. The company is focused on the development of a wide range of early stage, small molecule therapeutics to address unmet medical needs, in cancer, infection and immunology.

Dr Neil Murray, founder and CEO of Redx Pharma, will join headline speakers: Dame Nancy Rothwell, president and vice-chancellor at the University of Manchester and Sir Howard Bernstein, chief executive of Manchester City Council to highlight how the development and commercialisation of science is driving growth across the whole of the north.

Dr Murray said: “The Business of Science Conference is very timely. If we are to meet the bold aspiration of the Northern Powerhouse agenda and truly rebalance the economy, this region needs a clear strategy to enable science-based companies to deliver growth.

“We believe that the traditional approach of simply creating ‘clusters’ of like-minded technology companies situated on a business park somewhere is not sufficient to help the UK sector grow and cope with the challenges of commercialising scientific innovation and research.

“We need a more joined-up approach to bringing together the infrastructure, relationships and skills that support the growth of life science companies. I am looking forward to sharing the experiences from our growth journey and discussing our exciting pipeline in cancer, anti-infectives and immunology at the conference."

Steve Bennett, managing director of Science North Limited, the organiser and host of the event, said: “We are delighted to have Redx Pharma as a sponsor of this first conference. Redx is a shining example of a business which is right at the forefront of drugs discovery. Since the launch in 2010, they have shown incredible support to not only the North's science sector but also to the whole UK science industry."

Held at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester, the conference will explore the development and commercialisation of great science. With other speakers including senior figures from PZ Cussons, Siemens UK and the National Graphene Institute, delegates will hear first-hand how businesses succeed in science.

Event supporters include Active Profile, TransitionPlus, Wakelet, Cindr, Fatsoma  and WolfeLive.
