As part of the Recovery Street Film Festival, budding filmmakers from the recovery community have been invited to send in their short films, and on Thursday, September 15, the Parr Street venue will showcase a selection of the finalist’s work.

In addition to the event, The Brink is also highlighting the importance of Recovery Month, which runs throughout September and aims to increase awareness and understanding of mental and substance use disorders.

General Manager of The Brink Carl Bell said: “Here at The Brink, our focus is on recovery and we are therefore thrilled to showcase the fantastic work as part of this year’s Recovery Street Film Festival.

“Each film is the work of aspiring film makers who have experienced recovery from drug or alcohol addiction, whether it is themselves or somebody close to them, and the films demonstrate the diverse issues that are faced by those suffering with addiction. It’s a fantastic opportunity to inspire both the recovery community and the general public alike, while educating viewers on the devastating effects of addiction.”

As Action on Addiction’s flagship venue, the revolutionary social initiative is leading the way in promoting awareness by combining fresh healthy food and entertainment, whilst acting as a haven for those affected by alcoholism and addiction.

The Recovery Street Film Festival, which is in its third year, is open to anyone with a lived experience of addiction, whether directly or through a loved one, and who has a story to tell about addiction and subsequently recovery.

Carl added: “It’s also very fitting to host the Recovery Street Film Festival during Recovery Month, which aims to educate the public on how addiction treatment and mental health services can enable those suffering from substance abuse to live a rewarding and healthy life.”

The Brink will showcase the Recovery Street Film Festival on Thursday, September 15 between 2pm and 4pm.
