A respected Harley Street fertility specialist has joined the ranks of a leading Cheshire IVF clinic, the firm has announced.

Rami Wakim, who has worked at several leading London fertility treatment centres, joins Reproductive Health Group - which has clinics at the BMI Alexandra Hospital, Cheadle, and the newly-opened Spire Manchester Hospital in West Didsbury - as a consultant in reproductive medicine.

And he brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise with him, with clinical and academic interests in subfertility, assisted conception, implantation and immunology, mild stimulation and social egg freezing.

Mr Wakim said: "This is a state of the art clinic and its facilities are second to none.

"It also has the perfect balance of very personal support for patients and the best medical services.

“I’m delighted to have joined the team.”

Reproductive Health Group, headquartered in Daresbury Park, Warrington, recently celebrated its third birthday having opened in 2014.

Upon its unveiling, the centre was described as ‘Britain’s first fully integrated fertility hospital’, offering fertility, gynaecology and maternity services, all under one roof.

Latest staff member Mr Wakim trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Egypt, Lebanon and the UK, where he successfully obtained his CCT, allowing him to register as a consultant.

To pursue an aspiring career in Reproductive Medicine, he then joined the Assisted Conception Unit at University College London Hospital (UCLH) and IVF Hammersmith at Imperial College, both highly accredited IVF units at tertiary university hospitals.

It was here he accomplished double Fellowship programmes and trained in all aspects of assisted conception (IVF).

He was subsequently appointed as a consultant in reproductive medicine at the Harley Street Fertility Clinic, CREATE and GENNET fertility groups.

Mr Wakim was also a visiting consultant to Armenia’s largest IVF clinic in Yerevan. At the invitation of the president of the Armenian Society of Reproductive Medicine.

Meanwhile he also has expertise in both 2D and 3D gynaecological ultrasound scanning.

While at UCLH, his research led to the publication of a crucial paper in 2005 about the Anti-Müllerian hormone - or ‘AMH’ - test, which gives an indication of how many eggs a lady is carrying and therefore how fertile she is.

That paper has revolutionised the way IVF clinics work.

And he adds that his professional motivation centres around the ‘ultimate satisfaction attained from helping people on their journey to have children.’

Crucially, Mr Wakim is also multi-lingual - speaking fluent French and Arabic with some understanding of Italian - which he hopes will help overseas patients to fully understand their treatment journey and feel more comfortable speaking in their own languages.
