Macclesfield-based Direct Food Ingredients has crowned Andy Watt as its Employee of the Year.

Software developer Andy has been awarded the prestigious title after receiving an influx of nominations from his colleagues.

Over the past 12 months, Andy has revolutionised the company’s IT structure and launched a bespoke intranet system that supports Direct Food Ingredients’ comprehensive provision of a thorough audit trail and compliance in accordance with stringent industry bodies. The intranet controls these specifications and improves in-house efficiency, reducing long term costs. It also speeds up orders, the inputting of data and is instrumental in supporting the company’s expansion into new markets and territories.

In addition, Andy is always on hand should a department experience any IT issues, even in Direct Food Ingredients’ Los Angeles office which can occur after work hours.

The valued team member was presented with a trophy by managing director, Steve Loake, as was second place, Tom Mayer and third place, Bryan Dickie.

Tom Mayer, from Macclesfield, has worked in both quality assurance and customer service at the company. No task is ever too big or too small for Tom and he will now be transferring his wealth of skills as he joins the sales team.

Swinton resident, Bryan Dickie is a sales executive specialising in sports nutrition. His commitment in the fast-paced sales environment doesn’t go unnoticed and his dedication to customers is widely recognised by colleagues.

The company began the Employee of the Year scheme last year as a way of commending the fantastic work that its team does day in, day out. Employees nominate one another each month by listing reasons and examples as to why the person deserves the title.

Andy commented:  “I was surprised to receive the award given the high number of talented and dedicated staff within the organisation.  It has been an exciting 12 months within IT, and I'm pleased that my work has had a positive impact on the DFI systems.  I'm looking forward to the next 12-18 months during which time we have plans to develop new systems, which will further improve the great service we are able to offer to our customers.”

Steve Loake, managing director at Direct Food Ingredients, said:  “Andy has been fantastic this past year and so it is no surprise that he won Employee of the Year 2016.

“His devotion to the improvement of our IT system has been outstanding and it has helped to make everyone’s job that bit easier. Most importantly, our customers have really benefitted from the upgrade and each member of the sales team can now process 20 orders per hour, as opposed to just 21 per day through the old system. This ensures that we are consistently delivering our renowned ‘raving fans’ service.

Steve added: “On behalf of everyone within the company, we’d like to congratulate Andy, and give a big well done to Tom and Bryan too.”
