Together begins its search for new apprentices

"Our apprenticeship scheme offers people the best of both worlds a permanent role with a good starting salary and the opportunity to build their experience and confidence in the workplace"

Specialist lender, Together, has launched this year’s apprenticeship scheme to give talented job seekers the chance to kick-start their careers.

Places are available for six full-time apprentices to join the group’s two-year programme, based at its headquarters in Cheadle, south Manchester.

The scheme is open to students post A-level or equivalent, and, for the first time, Together is offering “returnships” – for people in later life who are keen to return to work, or start a new career.

Successful candidates will study for various qualifications on offer, such as NVQs or City and Guilds, and all apprentices will progress to a permanent role with the company on completion, with potential to work in different areas of the business.

Natalie Newton, Together’s academy manager who will be overseeing the programme, said: “Our apprenticeship scheme offers people the best of both worlds; a permanent role with a good starting salary and the opportunity to build their experience and confidence in the workplace, gaining relevant skills and qualifications as they go along.

“This is the first year we are opening up our scheme not only to school or college leavers but also to the older generation, so anyone – whether they are 18 or 80 – can apply. This year’s intake could include former students looking to take their first steps in a new career or mums or dads, eager to get back to work after bringing up children. This is a great opportunity for talented people to join a forward-thinking business with a bright future.”

Current apprentices are working in personal finance, customer services, commercial lending, business change, and IT and there are excellent career prospects on offer, with many former apprentices moving up through the organisation.

Shauna Raikes, 19, from Wythenshawe, joined as an apprentice in September 2016 and is working in the collections department. She won Together’s ‘Colleague of the Month’ shortly after joining the business.

She said: “The apprenticeship programme is great. It’s really varied; with the chance to work in different departments and get involved with everything that’s going on, and there are great benefits too.”

Apprenticeships are currently available in departments including IT, HR, customer care, quality assurance and mortgage processing.

Together, which was established 43 years ago, offers a range of specialist finance and is one of the North West’s most profitable companies.

Benefits at the company include a gym membership, a generous holiday allowance including a day’s birthday leave, and an annual bonus scheme.
