Haines Watts Liverpool advises taxpayers ahead of looming deadline

""

Director of Haines Watts Liverpool Russell Silverman is urging those who have received a self-assessment tax return form from HMRC to submit their forms and pay any outstanding tax that they owe ahead of the January 31 2016 deadline.

He said: “Anybody who has received a self-assessment tax return form from HMRC is legally obliged to complete and submit it by the deadline. This can often cause stress and confusion, but our experienced team is on hand to offer individual guidance in completing the forms and to ensure that any monies owed are paid in full, on time and that no extra charges are incurred.

“HMRC is continuing to crack down on those who miss the deadline with interest charges and penalties, which is why we are advising taxpayers to file their returns as soon as possible to avoid unnecessary consequences. In more severe cases, HMRC may take ‘enforcement action’ to get what is owed to them through your earnings or pension, through debt collection agencies, by taking you to court or even by closing down your business.”

It is estimated that around nine million people across the nation will need to complete a self-assessment tax return to be submitted to their tax office.

Haines Watts Chartered Accountants, located on Victoria Street, specialises in the management of both UK and international tax matters including tax compliance, tax planning and Corporation Tax.

Russell added: “We can also help when things get a bit more complicated, for example, if you don’t agree with the tax bill that you have received or you have a genuine reason for the late-filing of your tax return.

“Long after the January deadline has passed, our team will also be on hand to help with any future tax planning a business may require. We can advise business owners on putting in place a clear tax plan for the rest of the year and putting the correct financial procedures in place, allowing them to easily keep on top of their financial affairs for the year ahead.”
