Broderick's Sponsors Vending Does Malaga To Vilamoura Charity Ride

Broderick's Sponsors Vending Does Malaga To Vilamoura Charity Ride

" I take my hat off to them and we're delighted to support such a great cause."
John Broderick, MD of Broderick's

When the charitably minded ‘Vending Does’ team completed its epic bike ride from Malaga to Vilamoura, they received a surprise boost to their fundraising, courtesy of leading-edge vending and refreshments business, Broderick’s (www.brodericks.co.uk).

Vending Does is a team of intrepid vending professionals who combine their love of cycling with a passion for raising money for deserving causes.  Their most recent fundraising adventure saw them cycling 300 miles in 3 days, raising £3,000 for the Diamond Blackfan Anaemia charity along the way.

However, upon reaching their destination – the AVS vending conference in Vilamoura – the team was greeted with more than just a round of applause.  Broderick’s boosted the £3,000 sponsorship received from a wide range of supporters by a further £2,000 – taking the total raised to £5,000.

Diamond Blackfan Anaemia (DBA) is a small charity that means a lot to the close-knit vending community, as a member of AVS in Northern Ireland has a two-year-old daughter who suffers from the disease.  DBA is a rare bone marrow failure disorder, where patients fail to produce red blood cells properly and may need treatment ranging from monthly blood transfusions to regular steroid treatment.  The charity aims to deliver support, research and hope to the DBA community and the money raised will go towards funding a retreat for sufferers and their families.

Every year, Vending Does takes on a new challenge: past activities have included a London to Paris bike ride.  Team members include:  Roger Bunn from Crane MS; Richard Allen of 4 Aces Packaging;  N&W’s David Brady and Andy Cunliffe; and Ian Keefe of Benders.  Tony Abott and Fred Stanley of The Coffee Bean Company lent support by driving the bikes over to Spain and tirelessly keeping the cyclists watered throughout their journey.

Roger Bunn commented: ‘’The vending community is notoriously supportive of good causes and it’s great to be able to contribute in a way that also indulges our love of bike riding!  DBA is a cause that’s particularly close to our hearts as we’ve seen first-hand the effect it has on families.  We were so touched by all the support we received and we’re extremely grateful to Broderick’s who went the extra mile with a particularly generous donation.’’

Broderick’s has long been a fervent supporter of charitable causes both close to home and further afield: from Macmillan’s ‘the world’s biggest coffee morning’ to Children in Need and from sponsoring local sports teams, donating to food banks and providing a prize fund for ethical gardens, to participating in the charity auction for EDUK, Broderick’s is committed to giving something back.

Managing director of Broderick’s, John Broderick, said: ‘’the Vending Does chaps really poured blood, sweat and tears into an extremely challenging charity ride.  Not only did they cycle 300 miles, but climbed 17,000 feet on their bikes!  I take my hat off to them and we’re delighted to support such a great cause.’’
